Are you getting frustrated at trying to maneuver your wheelchair in public buildings? Perhaps you are growing tired of having to summon assistance whenever you enter or exit a building. You may be recovering from a sports injury or car accident so may be reliant on a pair of crutches to help you get around. If so you will know that it is very inconvenient when you need to access the top floor of a building that has no other access besides a flight of stairs.

These situations are more common than you think as many buildings are not equipped to accommodate disabled individuals. Fortunately, the third part of the Disability Discrimination Act or DDA was established in an effort to eliminate many of the physical problems faced by disabled individuals when it comes to public or commercial building access. A vertical lift is a great way to meet the DDA’s requirements and provide better access to everyone in your building. Business owners can have a vertical lift installed inside or outside of a building in a wide range of options to suit the individual needs.

You could also install a vertical lift in your own home to provide quick and easy access to the top floor of your residence. You can choose a colour, style and building material that suits the décor in your home. A domestic vertical lift is very unobtrusive and will provide you much greater freedom to travel to any area of your home. You will no longer need to rely on others to access the upper levels. This can also save you the expense and inconvenience of having to move to a ground floor dwelling.

A vertical lift is also a safer option for elderly individuals as they won’t run the risk of tripping or falling on stairs. Instead, they can open the door to the vertical lift, press a button and a few minutes later, voilà, they will find themselves at the top floor of their home. The new vertical lifts are also very quiet so you won’t need to concern yourself with bothering your neighbours.
