Leicester's new 'Enable Me' Centre opens new doors for users of disability equipment
A new 'Enable Me' Centre has been opened by Nottingham Rehab Supplies (NRS) in the south Wigston area of Leicester. The Centre provides opportunities for disabled and older adults – as well as children with special needs - to try out disability and mobility equipment before they buy.

BS 6440:2011 - Powered Vertical Lifting Platforms having non-enclosed or partially enclosed liftways, intended for use by persons with impaired mobility - Specification
Following 12 months of intense consultation and redrafting, the new BS 6440:2011 was submitted to the BSI (MHE/4) for their approval. All comments received were considered and the draft standard was approved for publication.
This now means that the latest standard in the public domain is BS 6440:2011. This is the standard which should be referred to for all new lift applications that fall within its jurisdiction. The document was published August 31 2011

2011/12 Disability Facilities Grant (DFG) Spending Concerns
There are early concerns being raised regarding the deployment of the DFG for Housing Adaptations at Local Authority level....
The Government, in a commendable attempt to show early support for its commitment to moving from institutional to domiciliary care, has increased the Disability Facilities Grant (DFG) given to Local Authorities from £167.3 million to just under £178.3 million (an increase of 6.6% overall).
