Leicester's new 'Enable Me' Centre opens new doors for users of disability equipment

Julie Elliott – Trusted Assessor at the new 'Enable Me' Centre in Leicester – shows how to operate a Terry Lifts 'Harmony' through-floor liftA new 'Enable Me' Centre has been opened by Nottingham Rehab Supplies (NRS) in the south Wigston area of Leicester. The Centre provides opportunities for disabled and older adults – as well as children with special needs - to try out disability and mobility equipment before they buy.

Anyone can go along to the Centre to try out, or watch a demonstration of, the various products in stock. Everything has been carefully chosen to improve the quality of life for so many people and their families.

Julie Elliott is a specially trained Trusted Assessor at the Leicester Centre. Together with other colleagues, Julie provides advice and product demonstrations:

"We're always on hand to advise individuals or professionals such as physiotherapists or occupational therapists," says Julie. "It's important that people make the right choice to match the available products with their own specific needs. Just as important, we help everyone make the best financial choices too."

The new Leicester outlet is the (fourth?) 'Enable Me' centre to be opened by NRS in (as many years?). Facilities include a demonstration area and an on-site shop that stocks a selection of 'daily living' and mobility aids, together with mail order or online facilities for additional items.

Larger pieces of equipment are available for home installation. Advice is available on items such as bath lifts, stair lifts and 'rise and recline' chairs. Another popular product which can be demonstrated at the centre is a through-floor hydraulic wheelchair lift.

Already a major attraction at other 'Enable Me' Centres, the 'Harmony' through-floor lift gives wheelchair users easy access to upstairs bedrooms and other first-floor facilities. For many people, this means there is no need to move house (to a bungalow or ground-floor flat for instance), and their independence is greatly enhanced.

The compact and easy-to-operate Harmony lift is manufactured by Terry Lifts and is one of a large range of domestic wheelchair lifts designed and built by the Cheshire-based company.

A recent re-design of the flagship Harmony model now gives users wider and longer options to accommodate virtually every size of wheelchair. For example, the Longer Wider (LW) model is the only lift available in the UK that will accommodate all category A & B wheelchairs. All major features which have made the Harmony through-floor wheelchair lift so popular have been retained.
