Terry Melody 1 - The Pound Arts Centre
The Requirement
North Wiltshire District Council needed to provide disabled access to the outside café at the beautiful Grade II listed building The Pound Arts Centre. There was also a requirement to provide an additional emergency exit for wheelchair users. The lift had to be fitted quickly in order to meet the deadline of the opening ceremony of the refurbished Arts Centre on the 26th of October 2007.

The Solution
Terry Group Limited was sub-contracted to provide a suitable designed outside lift that would not visually conflict with the sensitive character and setting of the listed building, along with ensuring the lift was installed in time for the official opening ceremony. The Terry Melody 1 Lift was selected by North Wiltshire District Council as the most suitable lift both for its simple design and to provide improved access in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act for The Pound Arts Centre visitor's to the outside café. It was essential that building work was kept to a minimum in order to create as little disturbance as possible to the refurbishment and to help meet the short deadline. The unique and versatile design of the Melody 1 includes a ramp which meant the need to dig a pit was eliminated, thus keeping building work to a minimum and ensuring an efficient installation.
Client Feedback
The client was delighted with the simple, unobtrusive design and functionality combined with the efficient service and felt that the Terry Melody 1 successfully met the difficult constraints placed upon modern additions to historic buildings. This user friendly lift has made the outside café easily accessible to less physically able visitors at the Pound Arts Centre and, whilst being sensitive to the aesthetics of its surroundings, has remained an attractive feature in its own right.
The Terry Melody 1 has been designed to meet the need of disabled people in short rise conditions of up to 1 metre, in an unobtrusive manner. It is the ideal solution to overcome split level access in retail, leisure and office situations.
