Mrs. Robertson required a home lift that would not compromise the unique aesthetics of her staircase.
Mrs. Robertson, who lives in the countryside yet just a 30-minute train ride from London, has over an acre of land on her property. The beautiful house located in Buckinghamshire has been in the Robertson family for over 100 years and Mrs. Robertson and her late husband have lived there for 55 years.
The house is built over two storeys allowing plenty of space for the grandchildren to visit and stay over. However, suffering from weak legs and asthma, Mrs. Robertson was finding it too much of a struggle to get upstairs to the bedroom. She needed an easier solution that would not undermine the beauty of the old staircase that is adorned with stained glass windows. “I don’t like the way chairlifts look and I definitely wanted something that wasn’t going to ruin the features of the house”, she explains.
A friend of Mrs. Robertson’s late husband had recently got a home lift and the couple liked the idea. They contacted two other suppliers besides Terry Lifts, but found that they were not being offered enough options or the right standard of customer service expected. “When I contacted Terry Lifts, I felt that the customer service was great and they showed me the different products so I could choose what was right for us”, Mrs. Robertson says.
Preferring to have the lift located next to the staircase, Mrs. Robertson decided on the THL 400 Domestic Lift which is the smaller of the two home lifts in this series. The lift can be installed without a pit and all lift parts reside within the shaft so no extra machine room or headroom is required.
The THL 400 home lift uses a patented screw/nut technology, and more than 95% of the elevator’s parts are recyclable. It has a low energy consumption amounting to no more than a computer or a TV. Importantly, the lift also comes with customisation options, so Mrs. Robertson could have the shaft walls glazed allowing plenty of natural light in the hallway.
Installation of the lift was quick and easy, and Mrs. Robertson has been thrilled with her new home elevator. “The lift has made such a big difference as the stairs caused me to lose my breath due to my asthma. However, now I have the lift here to help me and it can also transport items upstairs for me, safely and easily”, she says. “My grandchildren have just come to visit and they were amazed by the lift. Everyone who has seen the lift have been impressed.”
