FAQs

How much does a vertical platform lift cost?

The cost of a wheelchair or platform lift depends on numerous factors, including the type and configuration of the lift, how many floors it will travel to, the travel distance, additional features and building work required to fit the lift. For this reason, the price can fall anywhere between £4,000 to over £25,000. We can arrange a free, no-obligation survey to be carried out at the property in order to provide you with an accurate quotation. Just get in touch with our friendly Customer Services team on 0800 247 1228.

Does the installation of a platform lift require any preparations to be done?

Yes, although this can vary considerably depending on the location of the lift. However, before the lift order is placed, our sales advisors will check which additional specification options you should have on your lift, to ensure your lift is fit for purpose. For example, this could include galvanised doors and a weather proof roof over the doorways. We will inform you if any preparations are required after we have surveyed the site and you can complete the full preparatory works if necessary.

How much room is required for a vertical platform lift?

This depends on the type of lift being specified as well as the requirements of the person using the lift. The footprint for the lift can range from 800 x 1150mm up to 1600 x 1525mm and beyond.

How long does it take to install a vertical platform lift?

In general, the lead time from placing of your order through to manufacture and installation of a vertical lifting platform is between 6 and 10 weeks. The lead time can vary between different lift types. Our fully qualified and trained engineers can normally install the lift between 1 and 5 days, depending on the specification of the lift, number of levels served etc.

What headroom would you need to accommodate the lift shaft?

This varies between different lifts, but it is usually between 2300 mm and 2600 mm. In some cases, it can be reduced but we would need to conduct a feasibility study to determine this.

Can the end user get stuck inside the vertical platform lift?

Yes, this can happen. However, there are a number of safety features that can minimise any distress that could occur, should this happen. Our manufactured platform lifts come with a battery back-up which can provide the ability to the lower lift in the case of a power cut. Other platform lifts have battery back-up as an option as well as the ability to hand lower the lift and emergency release the passenger from the landing.

Can the lift shaft be ordered with different panels?

Yes, it can. You can choose between glass, MDF and Abet (plastic covered Perspex). However, there is an additional cost for different panels or a combination.

What is the life expectancy of a vertical platform lift?

The life expectancy of a lift is difficult to determine, because it depends on how often the lift is used, serviced, its location and the type of lift. All of Terry Lifts’ products are covered by a minimum 1-year warranty and we can provide a full range of extended warranty and service packages on request.

Can a vertical platform lift be re-used if the end user has no further need of it?

We can assist you in the removal of a lift in our product range, however, we might be unable to re-use the lift at a different location because of the unique configuration and layout required at each site.
