As I sit down to reflect on the past 20 years, I am filled with a sense of pride for the incredible journey I have had. It all began when I joined the company as an Installation Assistant, eager to learn and contribute. Little did I know, as I sat in my car at lunch on my first day, wondering if this was the job for me, that this would be the start of a remarkable adventure that would shape my career and life in ways I could never have imagined.
In those early days, I was fortunate to work alongside some truly talented individuals who took me under their wing and taught me the ropes. Their guidance and mentorship were invaluable, and I quickly realised the importance of building strong relationships and learning from those around me.
As I gained experience and honed my skills, I decided to transition into the production department. This role allowed me to dive deeper into the production aspects of our work and develop a keen eye for detail. I relished the challenges and opportunities that came my way, always striving to improve and innovate.
My journey then led me to the purchasing department, where I learned the intricacies of supply chain management and negotiation. This role was a pivotal moment in my career, as it taught me the importance of strategic thinking and effective communication. I couldn’t leave anything alone, always looking for ways to optimise processes and drive efficiency.
Recognising my passion and dedication, the company created a new role for me: Operations Coordinator. This position allowed me to oversee various aspects of our operations and ensure everything ran smoothly. It was a challenging yet rewarding experience, and I thrived in this dynamic environment.
My hard work and commitment did not go unnoticed, and I was soon promoted to Operations Manager. In this role, I had the privilege of supporting a drive for operational excellence. I embraced the responsibility and worked tirelessly to foster a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
As the years went by, I continued to grow both personally and professionally. I was promoted to Director of Operations, and eventually, Operations Director. Each new role brought its own set of challenges and opportunities, and I embraced them with enthusiasm and determination.
Only this week it has been confirmed that I will be Managing Director designate, with full hand over to the position of MD in August. This latest move comes with mixed emotion, sad that Dave has decided to retire, yet excited for this next chapter of my career and the challenges it will bring.
Throughout my journey, I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with countless incredible people. Their support, encouragement, and camaraderie have been instrumental in my success. We work together, as a team. I have also had the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects in every aspect of the business, each contributing to my growth and development.
Looking back on the past 20 years, I am grateful for the experiences and lessons that have shaped me into the person I am today. I am proud of what I have accomplished and excited for what the future holds. As I continue my journey, I remain committed to driving excellence, fostering innovation, and making a positive impact on our organisation.
I am often asked what I enjoy about my job, why I come to work. The answer is always the same. We make a difference to peoples lives. The mum who can now get into her garden to play with her children, the dad who can now get out of the house to get to the shop himself and the countless families who can now do everything together without restriction. A disability should not prevent you living the same accessible life as an able-bodied person. I come to work to remove those barriers.
Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey. Here’s to the next chapter and many more years of growth and success.
