When Supported Community Business moved into new premises in Crewe, making sure everyone could access and enjoy the building was an important part of the move.
With the office and canteen located on an upstairs mezzanine, the team needed a safe and practical way for staff and visitors with mobility needs to move between floors.
Working closely with the customer and their contractors, we found the right solution: a Melody 3 Platform Lift.
The new premises had two existing staircases leading to the upper level. However, neither provided suitable access for everyone using the building.
Without an alternative, people with mobility needs could have been unable to reach important areas including the office and canteen. This would have restricted their independence and their ability to use the building fully.
The team needed an accessible solution that would work within the existing layout without getting in the way of the building’s walkways.

We worked closely with Alex Muirhead and the team at Supported Community Business, as well as their contractors, to understand the building and what they needed from the lift.
Our team carried out site visits before, during and after the preparatory works. This helped everyone work together and ensured the site was ready for installation.
A space between two doors on the lower level provided an ideal location for the lift. It meant the solution could be easily accessed while keeping existing walkways clear.
We installed a Melody 3 Platform Lift to provide access between the ground floor and upstairs mezzanine.
Its compact design made it a practical fit for the available space while providing a simple way for people with mobility needs to access both levels of the building.
The lift travels 2,990mm between floors, making use of almost the full 3,000mm maximum working height of the Melody 3.
Our expert installers completed the installation in two days, helping Supported Community Business get its new premises ready for the people who would be using them.

The biggest difference isn’t the lift itself. It’s what the lift allows people to do.
Staff and visitors with mobility needs can now access the upstairs office and canteen more independently, helping make these important shared spaces available to everyone.
For Supported Community Business, it means their new premises can better support the needs of the people who work there and visit.
It’s a relatively compact addition to the building, but one that can make a meaningful difference to everyday accessibility.
A successful installation starts long before the lift arrives on site.
By working closely with Alex and the contractors throughout the project, we could make sure the preparatory work and installation came together as smoothly as possible.
That understanding and collaboration helped us provide a solution that fits the building and, more importantly, the people who use it.
Whether you’re adapting an existing building or planning a move to new premises, we’ll take the time to understand what you need and help you find the right access solution.
