An all-new non-enclosed wheelchair lift with optional automatic gates
The Melody 3 non-enclosed wheelchair platform lift was officially launched by Terry Lifts in October 2013 at the Interlift trade show held in Augsburg, Germany.
The hydraulic drive mechanism of this platform lift is the same as its predecessor, however, the superstructure of the platform is markedly different. The new design allows the easy option of an automatic gate as well as being able to incorporate one on the landing.
The Interlift unveiling was one of a series of marketing initiatives that will maximise the appeal of this product range in the established platform lift market.
The Melody 3 has undergone a design makeover to make it more pleasing on the eye and more attractive to both lift users and building owners. This will become clear when it comes to installing the lifts in public areas (where suitable wheelchair access is an important part of compliance with disability legislation i.e. 2010 Equality Act).
The additional option of automatic gates goes one step further towards anticipating legal safety requirements which are already mandatory in much of mainland Europe.
The way the automatic gates work is simple. The door open button which is blue and has tactile signage is located in the control console on the platform carriage and at the lower and upper landings landing, can be located either on a conveniently positioned steel post or on a nearby wall. At the upper level, the call station can also be incorporated into the gate post.
As well as providing a safety barrier at both the lower and upper levels of the lift for both wheelchair and ambulant users – up to a maximum 3-metre vertical travel – the automatic gates ensure ease of use and enhanced independent access.
For Terry Lifts’ Marketing Director, John McSweeney, the benefits of the automatic gates are clear:
“For wheelchair users,” he says, “this additional level of convenience is provided without them needing to operate any further controls or have to manually open and close the gates”.
As with other platform lifts in Terry Lifts’ product portfolio, the Melody 3 is ideal for wheelchair users who want easy access between levels
In addition, the ergonomically-designed Melody 3 can be installed almost anywhere in public buildings as well as outside domestic properties where access into and out of the home is a requirement. Installation can be completed usually within two days. An integral ramp eliminates the need for a pit which further minimises building work.
The Melody 3 hydraulic platform lift is packed with impressive features that wheelchair users will appreciate:
